Totally recoilless, the RWS Model 54 uses a floating action to achieve its maximum accuracy. When this magnum air rifle is fired, the action slides rearward in the stock, absorbing the recoil, and permitting the pellet to exit the barrel before any of the spring vibration affects its travel. Other features include adjustable trigger, adjustable rear sight, Monte Carlo stock, auto safety, and checkering in the grip and forearm. RWS is a trademark which dates back to the 1800s and comes from a small company located in the German state of North Rhine Westphalia. The company name was, "Rheinish-Westfalische Sprengstoff (RWS)" or "Rhenania WestphliaExplosives". Early in the 20th century, RWS joined Dynamit Nobel, formed by scientist and industrialist, Alfred Nobel, who was also the founder of the distinguished Nobel Prize. In the beginning, the company produced Nobel’s own invention, a safety explosive called Dynamite. Over time the company came to concentrate efforts in the shooting sports and today, RWS is associated with the highest quality airguns and airgun ammunition available.
