The company name was, "Rheinish-Westfalische Sprengstoff (RWS)" or "Rhenania WestphliaExplosives". Early in the 20th century, RWS joined Dynamit Nobel, formed by scientist and industrialist, Alfred Nobel, who was also the founder of the distinguished Nobel Prize. In the beginning, the company produced Nobel’s own invention, a safety explosive called Dynamite.
