The Steyr SPP ( Special Purpose Pistol ) is a semi-auto-only civilian version of the Steyr TMP (Tactical Machine Pistol). It is a blowback-operated 9×19mm Parabellum caliber pistol with a locked breech and a rotating barrel. At that time it was Steyr’s answer to the HK SP89, a cross between an UZI, AR-15 and Colt 2000. Muzzle velocity is 400 m/s (1,312 ft/s) and effective firing range is 100 meters. The cocking handle of the SPP is quite similar in design to that of the AR-15 and is located at the rear of the upper receiver under the rear sight. The Steyr SPPT was called SSP and it was expensive and only imported in the USA in a small numbers.
