Frequent disassembly or caliber changes have no effect on the point of impact of the rifl e. The barrel is easily removed with a hexagonal wrench. There are modular locking bolt heads and magazines for the various caliber groups which can easily be matched with the desired caliber of the barrel to be installed. The magazine is located above the trigger on this short-action system. Merkel developed a practical solution to allow the user to quickly detach the magazine. The cover pivots downward so that the magazine can be easily removed. In this position the gun is safe and the set trigger is automatically disengaged.
