The SPAS-15 is a dual-mode 12 gauge combat shotgun manufactured by the Italian company Luigi Franchi S.p.A. Franchi are renowned for their semi-automatic shotguns and are a division of Benelli, Franchi was acquired by the Beretta Holdings which is the current owner. The SPAS-15 semi-auto shotgun is intended as a law enforcement and a military weapon, that requires reliability, versatility and firepower. The firepower is achieved by using a detachable, single stack box magazine along with the gas-operated semi-automatic action, so multiple shots could be fired in quick succession and magazine could be changed much faster than reloading a conventional tubular shotgun magazine. The Franchi SPAS-15 is based on the SPAS-12 with the similar pump-action/semi-automatic firing modes. The pump-action mode is required to reliably fire low-pressure ammunition such as tear gas rounds or other less-lethal projectiles such as bean bags. Unlike the SPAS-12 the SPAS-15 is fed by a detachable box magazine. The shotgun features a folding stock and a pistol grip safety. |
