The AT-22 was developed by Feather Industries as a takedown rifle that would be more compact, cheaper and more useful than the storied Armalite AR-7. The rifle was blowback-operated. The weapon has an interchangeable barrel, which is poorly executed. The weapon has a wireframe stock that slots into holes at the rear of the receiver; the weapon has a plastic grip at the front, with newer versions having a vertical foregrip. The weapon's fire controls are ambidextrous but are placed in a rather odd spot on the weapon, ahead of the trigger; the magazine release is placed in front of the magazine well. The left side of the receiver is marked “READ MANUAL BEFORE OPERATING”. The right side of the receiver is marked “FEATHER IND., INC. BOULDER, CO.”. “.22 L.R. ONLY AT-22”. The right side of the receiver is marked with serial number. The top of the receiver is drilled and tapped to mount an optic. The pistol grips and forend are plastic. This is a great little “James Bond” rifle that breaks down into two pieces fitting snugly in an 18” x 13” briefcase. The rifle cannot be fired unless completely assembled and the overall length is just over the required 26” in the shortest configuration where it can be fired.
