About Company

Mauro Battaglia was born October 3rd, 1954 in Ravenna, in the Region of Emilia-Romagna ltaly's North. And, to this day he lives and works in his hometown of Ravenna. His innate talent for things mechanical appared already in childhood, as he precociously demonstrated through hobbies and early projects. From his father he acquired a passion for shooting. It was therefore perhaps in the natural order of things that these two interests would combine, one day, to lead him to gun-making, the vocation of his life, combining mechanical excellence with remarkable artistry of the best sporting arms.

Mauro Battaglia first touched the wood of a gunstock in 1983, as a hobby. He made his own tools for the checkering and finishing which his mind's eye imagined. Recognition was not long in coming: his ability was immediatly seen, especially as a result of the graceful flow of the lines he drew and the balance of his artistry. His work was soon noted with appreciation by early clients and also by craftsmen within the Italian sporting arms and industry, and particularly esteemed for the fineness and precision of his lines. Never fully satisfied, he continues studying his craft -accumulating books, drawings, and historical documents- at his bench, at his workshop at home.

Seeking an ever wider view, Mauro Battaglia attended courses offered by association of Brescia gun-makers. In 1992, he opened his workshop as a repair shop for fine arms, and in 1995 he obtained his licence to manufacture arms. Thus did he pursue his vocation, following the demanding traditional path of his trade. To him, gun-making is more than a living, it is a way of life. His dedication to the highest standards of the long Romagna tradition of arms making has earned him the respect of his profession and the plaudits of those whose passion is fine guns.
Without the benefit of formal schooling in his craft, Mauro Battaglia, inspired by the master gun-makers of his native region, taught himself the trade, and made his early mark with the acceptance of a rare challenge: that of the "Unfinished Zaccaria". The master gun-maker Arnoldo Zaccaria was also born in Ravenna, but in 1882. A man of powerful character, who spent his yuth in the Zanitto and Toschi workshops, he eventually opened his own shop. With the inspired talent and unrelenting determination, Zaccaria wrote his name into the book of the great gun-makers. He died in 1959, while working on what he had intended to be his masterpiece, a magnificent side-by-side. he left it unfinished, his apprentices did not dare to complete it, and finally Mauro Battaglia came forward to accept the challenge. The "Unfinished Zaccaria", now finished, was exhibited at Brescia’s annual fair, EXE 98, and brought Battaglia international attention and acclaim.
Now often spoken in Italian sporting arms' press, and recognized for his artistry, Battaglia has been acknowledged as the just descendant of the proud Romagna arms tradition, the man whose work keeps it safe and assure if for posterity. His workshop gives birth each year to exceptional double guns, all marked with the quality and grace which allow them to hold themselves beside the best guns of the English and Belgian schools. Indeed, Mauro Battaglia’s work is well known in the United Kingdom, to which country most of his guns are exported.
All Battaglia guns are crafed to order, to the client's own requirements, and finished to the highest standards in the execution of the client's dream. As one might expect, Battaglia warrants his guns for life. They will surely endure for generations.
