About Company

A huge chestnut tree in the 17th century. Century, the small hand-tool factory of the family Böker of Remscheid overshadowed, is the oldest fact about the name Boker, you can trace it back. Apparently, boeker tools were very successful, because 100 years later they were among the leading products in Germany and neighboring countries.

Due to the increasing demand in a restless political Era, have decided to Hermann and Robert Böker 1829, the production of Sabers. The office books September 1830, indicate a weekly production of 2,000 items, made by 64 Smiths, 47 grinders and a large number of Unskilled laborers. With a constantly growing variety of tools and cutting tools, and the good opportunities for worldwide sales, the family realized that they must distribute the tasks, to use their interests optimally. As a result, Hermann boeker emigrated and founded H. boeker & co. in New York. The young Robert boeker developed his enterprise in Canada, and later, he established in 1865 a branch in Mexico. This is still the market leader in its country under the name of Casa Boker.

Heinrich Böker, a Cousin only crossed the Wupper river and went to Solingen, where the German Cutlery industry grew by leaps and bounds. Together with Hermann Heuser, a well-known Cutlery-expert, he founded in 1869, Heinr. Boker & Co.

The Bökers in Remscheid and their Overseas cousins showed great interest and great demand for shaving blades, scissors and pocket knives from Heinrich's new Enterprise. They had to identify their products for the Overseas markets in a simple way, since many customers and consumers had problems with the German name boeker - not considering the widespread illiteracy. Heinrich Boker chose as a recognisable mark of the mighty, at that time, already 200 years old chestnut tree, of the successful Remscheid hand tool factory of the family Böker overshadowed. This brand symbol was owned by the Remscheid company, together with a second Logo, the arrow. One of the few valuable documents that survived the total destruction in the second world war, is an ad by boeker, Remscheid, from the year 1874, showing both logos.

There was always a very friendly relationship between the two Böker companies. So Henry was allowed to the Tree-brand, Boker tree across the river - without any big fight or cost. Since then, no boeker article has left the Solingen factory without this seal of quality.. of The old chestnut tree in 1925, after more than 100 years ago by a lightning strike has been taken. As a reminder of the great chestnut, which has become the Symbol for high quality pocket knife from Solingen, carved an artist, the Boker Logo from the wood of the original tree. This artwork adorns the office of the Executive in the Böker baumwerk Solingen.

As early as 1900, the U.S. market became the largest part of the Boker production. H. Boker & co. in New York concentrated primarily on cutting tools from Solingen. The pocket knife surpassed soon, more important than scissors, razors and Cutlery. The demand increased even more rapidly than Solingen was able to supply, so that the Americans began in New York, to produce a pocket-knife. Later, Pliers were included as well. Since the Tree symbol had become well established and the international boeker family enjoyed an excellent relationship with each other, it was difficult to receive permission from the Solingen Relatives to use the Tree symbol also for the American products. Since that time, there were two different lines of boeker knives have been on the American market with the same brand symbol, sometimes even with the same article numbers, but one Made in the USA and the other in Solingen. Only the gang signs provided for clarity, once, Boker USA and the other from H. Boker Improved Cutlery Solingen.

The great importance of boeker in the South American markets in Argentina, Chile and Mexico, we owe to the pioneer work of the Boker family in the 19th century. and 20. Century. Today's trademark includes the terms tree brand and Arbolito. Since the Argentinian market is subject to extreme economic and political fluctuations, threatened the good Name Arbolito oblivion.
