Information About Czech Firearms Market That Exporters Should Know

This is the main arms list that can be sold in Czech Republic in accordance with the current Czech legislation

Arms that are sold on the Czech market

 

No license needed (see more below):

- Air guns and PCP there is only limit in energy, allowed all till 16 Joules

- Guns with ammo type Flobert, allowed all till 7,5J

- Blank guns or alarm pistols and revolvers with no limit in caliber

 

License obligatory (see more below):

- Air guns and PCP> 16 Joules;

- Smooth barrel hunting guns caliber 12, 20, 16 etc.;

- Hunting Rifles caliber 22 LR, .308, .30-06, .223 Rem, 9 mm, 38 Special etc.

- Self defense pistols and revolvers also called traumatic or rubber ball calibers 9 mm PA, 10x28, 45 Rubber

- Regular pistols and revolvers calibers 9 mm Luger, 9x17, .38Special, 22 LR etc.

For semiauto guns (pistols and rifles) is needed special police permition.

Fullauto guns are prohibited. It can use only government forces or individuals with extra military permition.

 

In Czech Republic there is no limit in quantity. The only regulation is for storage:

Till 3 guns – no safe needed

From 3 to 10 – safe needed

From 10 up – safety room

 

Limitations.

There are no limits in import. The only issue is to categorized imported guns or ammunition as category A, B, or C.

Category A

a) Military guns

b) Military ammunition

c) Military accessories

1. sound moderators,

2. scopes with night

3. scopes with laser

Category B

a) small repeatable or semiauto guns,

b) short single shot guns or multi shot guns with magazine (or ammo reservoir) for centered fired ammunition,

c) short single shot guns or multi shot guns with magazine (or ammo reservoir)for rimfired ammunition, which total length is less than 280 mm,

d) long semiauto guns which magazine (or ammo reservoir) plus cartridge chamber capacity is maximally 3 rounds,

e) long semiauto guns which magazine (or ammo reservoir) plus cartridge chamber capacity is maximally 3 rounds and where feeding mechanism is removable or where is not guaranteed that can’t be modified to feeding mechanism for more than 2+1 cartridges.

f) long repeatable guns where barrel length is less or equal to 600 mm, and long semiauto guns with smooth bore which barrel length is less or equal to 600 mm,

g) semiauto guns which don’t have a military look, and

h) signal guns for usage of signal cartridges bigger than 19 mm.

Category C

a) single shot guns or multi shot guns with magazine (or ammo reservoir) for rimfired ammunition, which total length is longer than 280 mm,

b) single shot guns or multi shot guns, repeatable and semiauto guns not mentioned in Category B from d) to f),

c) gas guns, where kinetic energy of the bullet on the muzzle is higher than 16 J, with exception of guns for paintball, and

d) more than double shot guns designed on the principle of percussed locked systems.

Category D

a) historical weapons,

b) real guns ready to shoot ammo type flobert with muzzle energy less than 7,5 J,

c) gas guns powered by gas container,

d) gas guns with muzzle energy less than 16 J,

e) expansed guns and expansed devices,

f) mechanical guns where is stretched power higher than 150 N,

g) degraded guns with such not removable changes when is not possible to use for shooting them anymore,

h) guns which were cut and this slot doesn’t allow to use guns for shooting anymore and which discovered internal mechanism, and

i) guns didn’t mentioned in category A to C

All the imported guns have to have CIP or SAMMI marks. If they don’t have those marks, have to be tested in the proof house and pass the CIP standards.

 

The biggest segments of the Czech firearms market.

These are the biggest segments of the Czech firearms market:

  • Airguns and PCP’s. No shooting range needed, low prices and no license needed make that categories number one on the quantity and sales volume.

The main exporters on the Czech market in airguns and PCP market are Taiwan, China and Turkey.

  • Hunting rifles: Rimfires, Centerfires, Shotguns, Ammunition for all types shotguns.

The main exporters on the Czech hunting market are Germany, Austria, Italy (for shotguns) and Turkey (for shotguns). Ammo from Spain, Italy, Brasil (mother organization of SB).

There is very strong domestic gun producer CZ and ammo Sellier Bellot. 

  • Pistols and revolvers:

The main exporters on the Czech handgun market are Germany, Austria, USA, Italy, Turkey

There is very strong domestic ammunition producer Sellier Bellot. Export is from Brasil (mother organization of SB), Italy, Spain.

  • Blank guns. Main exporters for the Czech blank guns market are Turkey and Italy.

Import procedure:

10 days within EU states

2 moths within no EU states

 

License procedure for civilians:

Medical test including psycho tests;

Test in theory and shooting exam;

Police background check-up.

Timing – by the law max 30 days.

Licence for gun owner is for 10 years. After that the owner has to apply for the new one a do complete above mentioned procedure.
